“Eternals” is not your typical MCU film. It’s definitely something out of the Marvel norm. Darker and more mature, but without losing the lighter moments that maintain the Marvel magic.
..
Chloé Zhao successfully delivers an emotional and intriguing story complemented by its compelling characters and stellar visuals. Although the movie starts off with a slow pace and loads of exposition, it gets better as the plot moves forward and we are introduced to each of the characters, who all had interesting stories to tell, more than just their godly powers. With so many main characters, you would expect that some would not shine, but all of them had their key moments. Kudos to the cast for giving us brilliant performances. This movie would not be an emotional and thought-provoking experience without them. Moreover, the fight scenes were also epic. With a fantastic cinematography, the characters were able to showcase their spectacular powers, from Makkari’s incredible speed to Ikaris’ immense strength. This is hands down the best cinematography for an MCU film.
To add, this isn’t just another superhero movie. Or a movie about gods. It’s an ode to humanity, wherein the complexities of human experience were genuinely explored. With themes of love, destiny, morality, and purpose, we get to see the beauty of life and humanity unfolded through the journey of gods living in the human world. And I think that’s what makes this movie really unique.
Eternals is truly a great milestone for Marvel. It brings a different flavor to the MCU, and raises the bar for what’s possible in the future films. If you haven’t yet, go see this movie. You won’t regret it... there are no spoilers...this is going to be long but...Eternals is a wonderful WONDERFUL film. I don't know why critics hate this movie so much. What were the critics expecting? This movie was diverse . It has two head female characters, it had a deaf character, and lgbt representation. I don't want to make any controversial point but it does look like the critics did not like Lgbt characters inside the MCU? Because this movie was nowhere near bad. This movie has the best action in the entire MCU, great character work, the best cinematography we have ever seen in the MCU, and awesome VFX and cgi and awesome musical score.
Ok so lets start with the characters, Chloe Zhao's character speciality is really proven in this movie. All the characters had depth, seperate personalities, seperate defining traits and were three dimensional. All the characters were loveable and the awesome casting choice just nails it. It's just beyond me how Chloe Zhao was able to make all the characters so diverse and likable and 3 dimensional in their first appearance and all of them were relatable. The characters had intriguing motives . This movie was really deep. Some people are calling it a shallow movie that's pretending to be deep but no. Really this isn't. This movie deals with topics like love, betrayal, hate, envy , protection, helplessness, struggle, greater good, truth, lies, insignificance, importance, greif, and death. This movie doesn't shy away from death unlike other MCU movies like Civil War, Avengers 1 Captain America 2 etc etc. You will lose good characters along the way. You'd think that this movie lost its balance but no, this movie juggles all of the points pretty well.
The visuals and cinematography was stunningly beautiful. It was just marvelous (not pun intended) . And by far the best in the MCU. I get why they made Eternals into a movie rather than a series. We wouldn't have felt the absolutely gigantic size of the Celestials. And ooh boy was it awesome ! And the grand entry Arishem made at the end !!! Ooof!!! This was just awesome!!!This movie really does expand the MCU a lot and the the twist it has is brilliantly done. You wouldn't see it coming. It just waowed me. The designs were soo cool. You would hear some people say that the cgi stood out but really it didn't. It seemed so real.
The soundtrack was awesome as well. It really have me goosebumps.
The cast was great and the action scenes were brilliant. You would hear some people say that this movie is boring or badly paced but no! OMG it's not! It does have some slower scenes but nowhere near as slow that you would feel sleepy or bored. It's packed to the brim. It does have some dark and violent moments but not so violent or dark that it will scar children. It also does have the humour and lightheartedness . But the jokes here are subtle and not forced. You really would enjoy this movie. And the diversity representation was done very well. They didn't make a big deal out of it. They just treated it like it should be. Normally. It's so beautiful and wonderful that you are missing out something big if you are not watching this movie. Yes it maybe isn't the best MCU movie but it still does fall in the top 10. It has a strong plot, good characters, emotions, beautiful visuals, and death. Everything that makes it a tight and solid blockbuster. Go watch it , and don't listen to the critics. This movie was really Awesome I tell you. I already watched it three times and I enjoyed it every single time. This movie is a solid watch. And watch it in theaters if you can. You really will enjoy it.I was amazed by this movie. I was slightly apprehensive about watching this film after seeing the critics reviews but I made my way to the cinema regardless! And boy I am glad I did...
Spoilers ahead....
Chloe Zhao did an incredible job of introducing so many new characters into the MCU. I felt each character was developed perfectly, I left the cinema knowing them all inside and out. The diversity of this cast is also worth mentioning - it was truly refreshing to have representation from minority groups in each character. I fell in love with each character (especially Druig...) and cannot wait to see where the eternals are taken in the future of the MCU.
I only wish that Makkari (played by Lauren Ridloff) had more screen time alongside Druig (played by Barry Keoghan) because their chemistry was off the charts! Thena (Angelina Jolie) played an incredible part, giving the perfect mix of vulnerability and strength, the platonic relationship with Gilgamesh (Don lee) was amazing and made such a nice change to the standard romantic relationships we're used to seeing. Ikaris (Richard madden) and Sersi (Gemma Chan) had incredible chemistry and I was truly shocked by the plot twist. Sprite (Lea McHugh) played an amazing part, and somehow managed to make me love and hate her character! Phastos (Brian Henry) was a lovely breath of fresh air, he radiated such kind energy, and offered some great comedic relief. Kingo (Kumail Nanjiami) was brilliant, and carried the comedic sense throughout the movie. Ajak (Salma Hyeck) was wonderful, although she deserved more screen time! The visual effects for this film were also breathtaking (Arishum was especially realistic). The plot moved along in a lovely pace, and had a perfect ending which left everyone on the edge of their seats!
MAJOR SPOILER
I really really hope that Ikaris, Ajak and Gilgamesh can be bought back (even though they won't have their memories). They definitely have so much more to give within the MCU! The introduction of Eros (Harry styles) was done so well, the perfect casting! I am very intrigued to see his future MCU projects. I also get the sense that Eros and Pit will give similar energy to Groot and Rocket which is a dream. Also, the introduction of the black knight and blade was just amazing. All of my Marvel dreams have come true!
I am so excited to see where the eternals will go in Phase 4 of the MCU, i get the feeling it's going to be iconic..
